I love people. I really do! :-)
I even love loving on people! I really love doing fun things for them ... little surprises, gifts, care packages, treats! I like being with people ... I love listening to them. Somedays I think I spend my whole day just sitting and listening to stories ... and I LOVE it (and they pay me to do it!)
But sometimes, I'm just tired. The stories are great, the conversation is sweet, the adventures are amazing ... but I'm just tired. And the thought of stopping in the road to talk to my neighbor just means the run will take longer ... and hanging out with someone might mean having to get up an hour earlier than I planned ... and even an amazing weekend adventure with my best friends seems daunting because of all the other stuff I've got to do. So, how do you balance loving people and being tired???
Mother Teresa said, "Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired."
Hmmm ... maybe that's the point. We could love extraordinarily if it were always easy and always convenient. But what do we do when the day was long and we're tired? Does it matter so much what we did or that we did something???
God, help me to not love in HUGE ways ... but in little ways, even when I'm tired!
