Just Do It!!

It's summer!  That means, me and the 10th graders and the 7 am Sonic Happy Hour made it 180 days!  wooohoooo!

It also means I have a few weeks "off" for the first summer since college!  And in week #3, I have:
successfully dodged being called for jury duty 3 times
laid new bathroom floor - all by myself!
gotten new kitchen counters
made my little backyard haven
tended my garden ... and have a bunch of jalepenos, a zinnia ... and a lot of veggie babies to show for it
crafted some cute subway art frames
written some letters and cards
done some shopping
switched to Uverse (without the obligatory 6 hour service call)
tried a bunch of new Pinterest recipes
gone to the first of several professional development classes
watched 9 year olds play baseball
and gone running ... most days

And somewhere in there, I've slept past 5:30 am ... and read 4 books.  Life is pretty grand.  Can it please stay this way.  Forever?

But the point of this list was that I got new kitchen counters.  Since I still own a house in Georgia (that God-willing, some day I can sell!!) ... I have the blessing of living in my grandparents' fifty year old house.  Such a sweet lot of memories I find here.  I am loving it.  My garden is in "their" garden ... and I love talking to Mrs. Liz (who has been their neighbor 50+ years when we are out working in the yard!)  And, I am able to help get this house ready to go on the market (when I no longer need to live here!)

Being a fifty year old house, there was some updating that needed to be done.  The curtains got replaced with blinds, the walls got painted warm colors, the pink bathroom is slowly being reclaimed by less pink colors ... and we got new kitchen counters.

That probably seems like a "'no biggee" ... except that I remember the Christmas that Memama and Granddad gave each other new kitchen counters as their gift to each other.  And ironically, probably the money they put aside for that is that money in the trust that bought those new kitchen counters ... all those years later!  It was something they wanted ... and thought about ... and even planned for, but just never got around to getting done.

I'm finding that life's a lot like that.  Without intentionally setting out to do what is most important to us ... life just happens ... and those "things" seldom do!  Talked about visiting a friend?  Do it!  Talked about running a 5K?  Sign up!  Talked about starting a Bible study?  Writing a letter?  Asking forgiveness?  Starting a new career?  It's time.  It's time ... not to talk about it, but to do it!

I am loving the new counters ... but I wish Memama and Granddad got to enjoy them as well ... it was a one day project ... that cost a few hundred dollars ... someone just had to do it.

I think there are some more things that need to go on my summer bucket list.
