Still hanging out in Genesis with the Patriarchs study. Looked at Jacob the last couple of days and keep being amazed at several things ...
1. Human nature is as old as humankind. Must be part of the fall ... cause these people just keep making the same mistakes over and over. Abram and Sarai pulled the old "she's my sister" thing ... not just once, but twice (that we know of) ... and either they never told Isaac or that gave him the idea cause he and Rebekah gave it a whirl as well ... all with disastrous consequences.
2.You reap what you sow. In Jacob's case, he reaped deception ... stole his brother's birthright and blessing. He had to flee Esau's rage against him. And what happened to dear, sweet Jacob??? He worked seven years for the woman of his dreams and he got the old switcheroo from Daddy Laban. Jacob was loved more than Esau by his mother ... and Jacob showed the same favoritism to his wife Rachel to the detriment of his wife, Leah. Do we ever learn???
3.God uses flawed, imperfect people in mighty ways. These were not on the list of people "not" to be ... this is the lineage of Christ ... this is the honor roll of the faithful. God is referred to as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They were his beloved ... the father(s) of many nations ...
4. Our mistakes have consequences, but do not disqualify us.
5. He loves us because He loves us because He loves.
Christ didn't die for us because we're worth dying for, but because He is intrinsically love, & loves infinitely
