The Great GiveAway - Day #1

Well, it's December 1st ... and I am excited that some of you guys are taking the giving challenge with me!  I love it!

Today was our last lunch and Bible study at ASU and their last day of class for the semester (WOOHOOO!) and I gave them the challenge as well.  I started the "give" for me today by giving them each a cookie cuter filled with homemade fudge.  It wasn't much ... or even that significant, but it was a start and a tangible for them to see.

I got most excited today when Laura called to tell me that she had been praying God would provide her an opportunity to "give" and He did.  When she was out shopping today, he put a homeless, pregnant woman at the entrance to the shopping center.  And instead of handing her some money out the car window, Laura stopped, parked and asked the woman about her greatest need, finding out that her husband was applying at stores in the mall and that him finding a job so they could get a place to live before their baby was born in March was their greatest need.  Laura gave her some money ... but in listening to her story, the greatest gift Laura gave was herself.  She stopped, talked to the woman and made her feel valued and "seen" ... if even for a brief moment today.

Couldn't help but think of Mary, pregnant with no place to give birth.  What an amazing opportunity Laura took today.  I am hugely challenged to look outside of my little box of things I am comfortable giving to people I want to give to.

Any other good stories from today???  I'm excited to see what's in store this month ... (even if Laura set the bar high today!  :-)  Did I mention she also won Mom of the Year with her kids by buying them a long-wanted Christmas inflatable for the front yard ... I had the joy of hearing little Lydia's priceless response to seeing it ... it was awesome!!

Well I bought dinner for a friend...but didn't explain the reason for the giving. I was definitely convicted and hopefully will get the chance to tell her.
