My name is Karen and I am addicted to change.
Seems somewhat oxymoronic. I LOVE the comfort of routine, but I think I CRAVE change! Seriously? This is not what I would have expected from MY life, but it's what God has served up ... and so I think now I am addicted to it! :-)
For the first 25 years of my life, I lived in four houses. Yep, four. And three of those were when I was under six. And apart from our brief stint in Texas, my parents have worked a sum total of ONE place each(well, my Mom taught High School for ONE year before she had me but I don't think that really counts!)
From the moment I packed my car for seminary, I've lived in three different states and five different cities. I've lived in nine different apartments or houses or intern dwellings. I've had eight different jobs and three different careers. WHEW ... let's make sure that's all in perspective, that's been in the last fifteen years!
BUT, since moving back to Georgia almost five years ago, I've lived in ONE house (aside from the brief two months in the BCM which inspired me to look faster!) and ONE job at ONE place! ONE!!! That means all of those moves were really in 10 years. WHEW ... I think I'm getting the shakes ... needing a little change. Bet the Isaelites felt a little that way as well ... 40 years of wandering around ... settling in one place, that was gonna be SOME change!
SO, since I don't desire to move, not looking to change jobs or careers today ... maybe its a good time for some New Years resolutions ... that involve some change! What do I want to change IN me? What do I need to change to look more like Christ? Gonna set some goals.
1. Gonna be healthy - running 4 days a week. Taking a break from the long runs, gonna work at being a better, faster, shorter runner. Gonna work on those fruits, veggies, and water, too! My goal is to be at my WW goal weight by the April Mexico trip! I can do this!!!
2. Gonna live in community - that's one of the purposes of this blog ... not only to get back in the discipline of journaling, but also as a way of doing life with some of you guys who I don't see everyday! I saw recently the picture of community that can come even via cyberspace. Also, embarking on small group life at my new church, River Hills ... leading a women's small group on Sunday nights.
3. Gonna start my day with God. Seems a no brainer, but I have recently been blessed with a renewed desire and love to start my day with my Bible study, Diet Coke, and thankful journal. I look forward to it!
4. Gonna be intentional with relationships and investment. Gone are the days of taking life as it happens. I'm going to be more intentional at scheduling in "big rock" dates every week with people I desire staying connected with and am looking forward to having people in my home at least once each month. The who's and why's may look different, but its something I love but don't do enough of! Think I'll start tomorrow with soup and a paint party! CHECK! :0)
Help keep me accountable to be the person God has made me to be!
