the occasion ...

on which I came back to blogging ... instead of going to Chick-fil-a.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh ... don't tell.  But I didn't go to CFA today.  Not because I don't love it and not because I don't support their values ... but just because I didn't.

1. I wasn't there at a meal time (which might be good because the rest of the world was, apparently)
2. I will eat there tomorrow when I am at inservice right down the road.
3. I am somewhat really impatient and HATE crowds!
4. I am trying to be more frugal since I haven't had a paycheck in two months.
5. I don't love CFA any less by not going and I don't think my absence was noticed.

Did I mention I also have not watched one single minute of the Olympics.  I know, I know, please don't take away my birthday.

There's been so much happen in my life in my three month hiatus from blogging, I really didn't know how to come back ... and well, today just seemed like a good day cause God forbid I am NOT going to express any more thoughts in facebook or twitter.  I think the reaction has been a tad ridiculous.  I mean, I get it.  People are gonna make anything into a BIG deal when it hits their buttons.  But, really?  Who hasn't called CFA Christian chicken, who was honestly surprised by Cathey's statement (they put on marriage conferences for crying out loud).  He didn't say they wouldn't hire anyone who was homosexual.  He didn't say same sex couples cannot eat there.  He didn't say he hates people.  He just stood up for a Biblical view of marriage.  period.

SO, the fighting ... can stop, now.  ok?

I know I am not political and I hate arguing (even debates) so the junk on FB and twitter today just wasn't my cup of tea.  And honestly, I don't think every opinion that is held needs to be expressed ... but I think the biggest thing that bothered me about today was that something intended to encourage and support a company willing to stand up for their beliefs actually stirred up some resentment (or hatred) among folks who felt their beliefs were being attacked and made for some heated conversations that never should have been that way.  Of course, I think CFA has been unfairly attacked as well (but, let's be real, pretty sure CFA and the Catheys can handle it).

We are called to be salt and light in the world.  Today was a good day to count ourselves with those who believe in a Biblical view of marriage.  Now, it's time to move on to being love.  Loving those whose posts and tweets were less than correct, less than kind, less than graceful.  Loving those who are not like us.  Loving those who are hurt.  Loving those who are mean.  Christians can go back to loving God and loving their neighbor (don't think CFA was the third entity named here) ... and those who were offended by a lot of folks eating chicken today can move on to their next big thing.

On another note, while the world prepared to celebrate CFA, Charleston Clara Murray made her way into the world ... and her namesake is a homeless man named, Clarence, who tragically lost his life a few months ago, but not before leaving an indelible mark on Charleston's little family.  I'd rather celebrate a little girl named for a man who could not be any less like her ... but who lived a life of grace and leave the twitter world to tweet out the battle for Christian chicken.
