Beth Moore had an awesome blog post last week. If you missed it, you should check it out here.
She cut right to the chase. We are so busy comparing ourselves to others that we often miss being the uniquely equipped, gifted, and empassioned person God has called us to be. But man is that hard??!!
We all do it. Twitter feeds it. Facebook ignites it. Blogs fan the flame. We see someone doing something amazing. Being someone amazing. And all of of sudden, who we are and what we are doing just isn't enough ... or good enough.
But Beth throws some truth on that. She says ...
You following Christ will not always look the same as someone else following Christ. Why on earth would He have bothered to form you in your mother’s womb with your own DNA and life experience ahead just to copy what someone else you’re seeing is doing?
Who are you supposed to look like in your calling here on earth and in the way you follow Christ?
You’re supposed to look like the version of you that loves Jesus with everything in you.
That’s the real you.
If you've spent much time with me, you know I am passionate about helping people find and enjoy their own unique SHAPE in the kingdom. I am equally passionate that God does not call us to be miserable. So, what He is calling you to is not your worst nightmare (camping out in Nicaragua again), but rather is your greatest joy! As a matter of fact, Frederick Buechner would say, "The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet."
We're not all going to be eloquent writers. We won't all compel people to social action. We cannot all give up our day job to journey across the world. We won't all adopt. But, we will all fulfill the unique calling and purpose God has called us to in this season (because I am also learning that today is not forever and I need to be faithful to what He's called me to TODAY ... because tomorrow it may change!)
There's freedom in just being us. The best us we can be.
