The beginning ...

Two years ago, I was home for a rare Easter visit.  My grandfather was in the hospital and since it was my last day at home, I took the breakfast shift to go and be with him.  As I drove into the sunrise at St. Vincent's, I was met with a hearse pulling away.  My grandfather was still safely tucked in his room upstairs, but the reality of death and life was so poignant in those early hours of that easter morning.

As the day progressed, Granddad deterioriated, went back to ICU, and I spent the week in Little Rock.  We had a few more weeks with Granddad, but he never came home again.  I am forever thankful for that week I sat in ICU with him.  My grandparents were such gifts in my life and as I put peeps on the traditional Easter cake this weekend, I smiled at the memories I made with them.  The familiar sights and smells of his house comfort me this morning as I bask in those memories.

This is the day that changed everything. Because He lives, death is the beginning, not the end.  Because He lives, I do, too.  Because He lives, this life is not the end.

And then one day, I'll cross the river.  I'll fight life's final war with pain
And then as death, gives way to victory
I'll see the lights of glory and
I'll know He livesBecause HE lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, all fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future.
Life is worth the living, just because He lives.

The scandal of grace, you died in my place
So my soul will live

... very early on Sunday morning, the women went to the tomb
they found the stone had been rolled away from the entrance
they went in but they didn't find the body of Jesus
As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.
the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?
 He isn’t here!
He is risen from the dead!
That same day two of Jesus’ followers were walking to the village of Emmaus
As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened.
As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them
... Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him.
  “The Lord has really risen!

Weeping may last through the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
Psalm 30:5
