Wait for it ...

wait for it ...

I'm not a very patient "waiter."

Apparently Achan wasn't either.  He stole from the plunder at Jericho things God had told them were "dedicated" to Him.  I kind of wonder if His thought process was something like Eve's ... thinking that perhaps God was withholding something good from Him and thinking that taking a little of it (didn't Eve only take one apple??) might just be ok.

But it wasn't.

God is not withholding GOOD from us.  I wish I could make my heart believe that truth EVERY day!  I would never get up and accuse Him of holding back on the good stuff .... but I do it in my attitude and actions and even subtle comments a lot!

Today, in Joshua 8, God sent Joshua and the army back to Ai to defeat the people there.  He gave them a plan.  And he asked Joshua to extend his javelin for victory ... another tangible reminder that God was in control!

Ai and Bethel never saw it coming ... the ambush ... the win.  And the Israelites killed every inhabitant.  THIS time, however, God told them they could have the plunder.  If Achan had just waited ... he could have had all he wanted and more.

That's what's got me thinking today.  In our haste impatience, how often do we tell ourselves the lie that God is holding out on us ... go in and do things our way, to take care of ourselves ... only to find out if we had waited that He had all that and more for the taking??  Something to chew on ...
