So, today in my study, the question was posed, "What aspects of my lifestyle would cause others to conclude that I am set apart to God?"
and it made me think. And while my first tendency was to start naming all the things I DON'T do ... I think that really misses the point because I would much rather my life be known for what I AM not for what I'm NOT ... to be known for what I stand FOR not for what I stand AGAINST. I think that's one of the problems with the bad rap Christians get ... we are all about being AGAINST stuff: Disney (Baptists are NEVER gonna live that down), smoking, drinking, cussing, rock music, dancing, movies ... and that's what people see, know and remember. And while it's not bad to be against those things ... it shouldn't define us!!
Just think of what it would be like if Christians were known FOR being loving, kind, patient, gentle. If we were known as the first ones to respond to a need and the ones you could count on in a pinch. If we were committed and consistent. If we were people of conviction ... and those convictions were guided by love. If someone were to look at my life and find it set apart to God, that's much more what I would want them to see.
