Captivated by the truth there this week. Stunned by grace, God's riches at Christ's expense, to use the simplistic mnemonic. The free, undeserved favor of God. How do we even begin ...
I like things to be fair. My list of inequities and injustice can grow long. God doesn't play fair. He takes what we are owed and slathers His grace all over it. He takes what we deserve and throws it away. He takes what we could never earn and ties it with a bow, giving us the greatest gift, the one that cost Him everything. His grace, shining favor on our failure. His grace giving worth to our rags. His grace, lifting downcast eyes. His grace, breathing life.
Breathing.
This is where I've been stopped this week.
Breathing in His grace...
Breathing out His praise...
Breathing in His grace ...
Forever I'll be breathing out His praise.
We could never earn or deserve the gift of grace. But we can let the breath of our heart be to return to Him our praise.
I got a little behind on my Bible readings, so I've been catching up on 1 Samuel. Constant, God's grace to His people. Constant, their complaining, whining, idolatry. I cannot even imagine, oh wait, yes, I can. I do the same.
I get so aggravated with my students when they fail to appreciate a gesture of kindness ... I give them a piece of candy and they ask if I don't have something else... I give them an opportunity to change their grade and the do nothing. Somedays that makes me quit. This is how unlike God I am. His grace never quits. That should stir me to let His praise flow not just from my mouth but from my life. The natural rhythm of response to His grace.
