Still

To hear from God we need to BE STILL ... be quiet ... cease striving, worrying, working ... just sit ... just listen ...

Exodus 14:14
The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."

Psalm 37:7
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

Zechariah 2:13
"Be still before the LORD, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling."

and then one last example I'd never thought of:

When Jesus fed the 5000, notice what He did ...
Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them. Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.   (John 6:10-11)

He told them to sit down ... and he only fed those who were sitting down.  Have you ever thought that maybe we can't be fed if we don't SIT??  We live in a crazy, busy world ... I've been known to eat a meal in the car ... or even standing over the sink ... I don't even always sit to eat ... but if we really want to hear from God, we've got to STOP, SIT, and be STILL.  Notice that God came to Samuel, not in the midst of his chores in the temple, but at night when he was in bed, still .... when his mind was not running to the next task to be done ... but when he was open to hear from God. 

To me, snow is the most gorgeous reminder of being still ... it carpets the ugliness (and beauty) beneath.  It seems to dampen the sounds.  It makes all things new ... and here in the south ... it STOPS everything!!

Not even gonna lie ... got up this morning, saw that the "snow line" was still a little north of us and could hear the rain out the window, but still asking God for some snow this afternoon ... enough to let this crazy Tuesday, day that never ends, end a little early and let us all STOP, after a week of missions interviews and dinner theater and go home and just be still.  Please, God, let is snow ... and let it stick ... and let us go home early!!
