"Sometimes the things we think are holding us UP hold us BACK."
What does that mean? Well, it came out of Luke 18, the familiar story of the Rich Young Ruler. Everything he thought that would give him eternal life, instead, He found was holding Him back. What are some things that were holding HIM up??? money? prestige? being a good guy? following the rules? a job?
Hold us back from what? really following Christ? what HE really has for us? letting go? living in freedom?
Freedom. It's only in letting go of what we hold tightly that we can have that freedom. Maybe its comfort. I like comfort. Maybe its insecurity (got those) ... or fear (and that) ... or a job or a relationship. Maybe its sin ... or rebellion ... or a habit. Maybe it's an attitude or a place. Been thinking lots about that this week. Been praying about what might be holding me back. Even been stepping out a little to make sure some things aren't holding me back from what God has in store. It's kind of scary ... but very freeing!
Psalm 124:7 is a beautiful picture of FREEDOM ... no longer being held back. no longer being held in. no longer being trapped.
Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers;
The snare is broken, and we have escaped
