Kindness.
I spoke a few weeks ago in Gathering on kindness. Love is KIND we're told in I corinthians 13. As a matter of fact, that is one of the few "positive" definitions of love we find in that oft quoted passgae. Most of them describe what love is "not" ... but we find it opens up with two positive affirmations. Love is PATIENT and love is KIND. I think those two go hand in hand when we think about God's love for us. God IS patient ... not wanting anyone to perish, but all to come to repentance. And that patience drives Him to kindness. A kindness that leads to repentance. So, kindness is at the heart of the love God has for us.
Kindness is also a telltale sign of the love we have for others. Kindness is love with skin on. You know you have been loved when someone shows you even the simplest of kindness ... a cup of coffee on a cold day, an open door for your entrance, a warm meal and warm conversation. At this time of year, it's very, very easy to get annoyed with the crowds and busyness. Not gonna lie, going into a store for any reason this time of year ... yeh, not my favorite. But I can change that by putting a little kindness wherever life takes me this year. It might make a bigger difference than I could imagine ... in me.
