This year, or this month, or, more likely, this very day,
we have failed to practice ourselves the kind of behavior
we expect from other people.
- C.S Lewis
Yes! Just yes! I wish it was not true, but more times than not, I am guilty of exactly what I am judging someone else for ... for what they did, or didn't do. :-(
I get frustrated with my students for their complaining, when I justified my own.
I judged someone who once said, "I may forgive, but I don't forget" ... while, in my heart I feel that same way toward that very person.
I label some as ungrateful when I am no better.
I want patience and mercy, but often fail to extend it.
I want to win, but I don't always make my kids feel like they have "won."
I find myself easily loving those who are easy to love and expecting others to be for me what I am unwilling or unable to be for them.
Learning.
“Here is a simple rule of thumb for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you; then grab the initiative and do it for them! If you only love the lovable, do you expect a pat on the back? Run-of-the-mill sinners do that. If you only help those who help you, do you expect a medal? Garden-variety sinners do that. If you only give for what you hope to get out of it, do you think that’s charity? The stingiest of pawnbrokers does that.” (Lk. 6:31)
