Just this.
How often do we "vent" just to be heard. Often there is nothing that will fix it ... we just need to be heard, not with that "un-huh" answer, but in that deep, "yes, you're right," I get cha kind of way.
I have read about Hagar several times in the past few months ... and I've come to identify with her in a new way. No, she wasn't perfect, but her struggles were real. I mean, the jealousy of the 26 women in the Bachelor house has NOTHING in Sarah's dislike for the maidservant that she seemingly set up for the fall. Banished to the wilderness with her young son, God came to her ... and He HEARD their cries.
Here's what Genesis 21 tells us:
God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her,"What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation." Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So, she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink."
Hagar was at the end of her options, afraid that her son would die of thirst ... BUT GOD (I love those words) opened her eyes. He didn't dig her a well or bring water out of a rock, He opened her eyes to the provision right in front of her, to what was there all along.
That is my prayer today, that I will remember I am heard, I am seen, I am remembered, I am understood, and that I will let God open my eyes to what is right there in front of me!
